Writing

During this learning journey the children will be consolidating and applying all the knowledge they have learnt in Year 1 to a range of contexts. They will apply their knowledge of exclamation marks, question marks, suffixes -es -s -ing -ed, nouns, proper nouns, time connectives, adjectives and verbs. This will be presented in the context of diary entries, news paper articles, stories, letters and recounts. The children will be challenged to use all the knowledge they have learnt this year.

Maths

In our maths learning journey the children are going to learn time. They will revisit the days of the week and months of the year, and answer questions using the language ‘before, after, then, next, after that, finally’. They will then learn O’clock and half past on a clock and how this looks. After time, they will then be learning about position and direction. They will learn language such as above, below, left and right. They will apply this learning in different contexts.

Science

In our science learning journey this half term the children are learning to identify and name a variety of common wild and garden plants including deciduous and evergreen trees. They will explore what plants we have around our school and what plants need to grow. They will also learn to identify and describe the basic structure of a variety of common flowering plants, including trees.

Geography

In our Geography learning journey the children are going to use their knowledge learnt so far about the South pole to compare it to a Ashurst. They are going t learn the geographical similarities and differences through studying the human and physical geography of a small area of the United Kingdom (Ashurst), and of a small area in a contrasting non-European country (South Pole).

History

In this History learning journey the children are going to continue learning about events beyond living memory. They are going to be learning about pirates and what it meant to be a pirate. They will look at famous pirates such as Blackbeard and Ann Bonney and look at all the different roles pirates would have had on board their ships.

Art

In our Art learning journey, the children are learning about 3D art. They are going to learn about the artists Barbara Hepworth, Marela Zacarias and Brendan Jaminson and explore the different types of 3D sculptures they create. They will explore texture and shape, and learn how to sculptures out of clay. The children will use clay to create their own sculptures.

Computing

In this learning journey the children will use the app ‘pages’ on the Ipads to practice their typing skills and create a fact file about plants.

RSHE

In our RSHE learning journey the children will be learning how they have grown since they were a baby. They will think about and discuss what they could do as a baby, toddler, at preschool in comparison to now. They will look at the changes in their life and how this is different for everyone. They will also learn that their bodies are private and how to keep safe.
